East Antrim Rambling Club
Wednesday Morning Walks – October 2023 – March 2024

Note:-

Walks take place from 4th October on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays each month, usually also on the 5th Wednesday if there is one.
Walks begin at the designated meeting point at 10.30am, unless stated otherwise. If travel by train is suggested, those not travelling by train should meet at the destination station entrance at the train arrival time indicated in the “Details of Walk” column. Anyone with a query about the start point or about transport should contact the walk leader

Antrim Castle Gardens – Loughshore – Rea’s Wood. Meet at Mossley Station for the 09.33 Train to Antrim (09:20 from Lanyon, 09:24 from Yorkgate). Arrives Antrim at 09:47. Return @ :14 minutes past every hour.

Castlerock. Travel by train from GVS 09:10, Lanyon Place 09.20, Yorkgate 09.24, Mossley West 09.33 to Castlerock, arrive 10.50. Return @ :08 minutes past every hour.

Sea wall at Newtownards.

Park in front of the Newtownards  airfield clubhouse There are facilities and a cafι. Entrance to airfield on Portaferry Road is on the right a few 100 yards past the large roundabout , and a few yards past the petrol station. There is a large sign at entrance.

Castlewellan Lake - Annesley Gardens. Travel via Downpatrick Ulsterbus 516 (stopping bus) from Europa Bus Centre @ 09:00 arrives Downpatrick at 10:10. Goldliner 215 (express bus) from Europa Bus Centre @ 09:15 arrives Downpatrick also at 10:10. Goldliner to Newry via Castlewellan leaves Downpatrick at 10:20. Otherwise meet at Castlewellan Upper Square at 10:55.

Return bus Goldliner 238  at **02 and **32.

Purdysburn Ravine Nature Trail (In the grounds of Knockbracken Health Care Park)

 

Meet at Cairnshill Park & Ride, 299 Saintfield Road,  BT8 7SH

 

Park & ride bus (Service 652 destination Ballynahinch) serves Cairnshill Park & Ride on Saintfield Road. Picks up from Adelaide Street at 10.05 arriving Park &Ride 10.25. Return XX.25

 

Alternatively return by 7A bus from Cairnshill Road every 20 minutes 4/24/44 minutes past hour

 

Nature trail follows Purdysburn River, we can also go into nearby fields – boots and sticks advised.

 

Margaret would be pleased if walkers came back to her house for coffee and biscuits after the walk; she suggested that they bring their own sandwiches as there are no cafes nearby.
