St Patrick’s
Day Walk – Monday 18th March
Join in the annual walk
through St Patrick’s country. Organised jointly by Down District Council and
the Lecale Ramblers, the route includes a mixture of
mainly quiet country roads and green lanes. The event is FREE and a wee dram of whiskey (or tea/coffee) is provided at a
secret location along the route!
Time: Registration between
9.30am and 10.30am (walk starts at 10.45am sharp.
Please ensure that you register. Any person starting the walk before the
official start time will be considered to be walking outside of the event.
Venue:
Saul
GAC, St Patrick’s Road, Raholp (the venue will be
clearly signposted)
Distance:
Three
looped routes are available at 9km (5 miles), 15km (9.5 miles) and 22km (13
miles) approximately. The short walk will take approx. 3 hours, the medium walk
approx. 3 hours and the longest walk 4-5 hours (all allowing for a lunch stop).
Parking: Please try, where
possible, to share cars as there is limited car parking available.
Refreshments/Toilets: There will be tea
and coffee available for purchase in the club house prior to the start of the
walk. Stew will be available after the finish. If you wish, bring a packed
lunch. Toilets will also be available at the start point and the refreshment
point.
Large
Groups: It would be helpful if large groups who wish to attend could notify the
organisers, particularly in relation to parking buses.
Note: Please ensure that you
are fit enough to undertake the route you choose. There will be stiles to climb
on the route. Ensure that you wear warm and waterproof brightly coloured
clothing and sturdy footwear as the off-road sections can be muddy and wet.
Please also have sun protection and drinking water. The lanes are not suitable
for buggies and push chairs.
Strictly
no dogs allowed due to the presence of farm animals on the route. You are
responsible for your own safety at all times.
The organisers reserve the
right to change or cancel the event.
